Xcel customers in Grand Junction should schedule charging outside the 5–9 pm weekday peak. Grand Valley Power members should check the co-op’s current residential rate options; if there’s no time-varying rate on your account, charging time matters less.
If you plan to add solar to cover an EV, remember Grand Valley Power’s 10 kW DC residential cap when sizing both together.
Heat, dust and outdoor chargers
Many valley homes charge in a carport or driveway. Outdoor-rated chargers handle the heat and dust fine; we mount them out of direct afternoon sun where practical and keep cable runs short.
Incentives
The federal §30C charger credit ended for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026. Ask your utility about any current EV programs before buying equipment.
