A battery charged from midday solar and discharged in the evening shaves that cost every weekday, and Xcel’s Renewable Battery Connect program has offered an upfront incentive in exchange for occasional grid dispatch — confirm current terms before enrolling.
Grand Valley Power members: backup first
Grand Valley Power’s annual payout for excess energy is at wholesale-based rates, so storing solar instead of exporting it can add some value — but backup is usually the main reason. For orchard and acreage homes with wells, we size for the pump’s startup surge, often with two Powerwalls or an expandable SigEnergy stack.
If outages are rare where you live and no one needs powered medical equipment, solar alone may be the smarter spend. We’ll say so.
Heat and battery placement
Batteries don’t love Grand Junction’s summer heat in direct sun. We place them on shaded walls or in garages where possible, which helps both lifespan and performance. Colorado’s 10% battery tax credit (through tax year 2026) and sales-tax exemption apply here as everywhere in the state.
