If your CORE system is larger than 10 kW AC, midday exports earn only avoided cost. Scheduling the car to charge during sunny hours — on weekends or work-from-home days — puts that energy to much better use.
On Xcel in Highlands Ranch, the rule is simpler: charge outside 5–9 pm on weekdays.
Two EVs, one panel
Two Level 2 chargers can overload a panel if both run at full power. Load-sharing chargers split available current between vehicles, often avoiding a service upgrade. We do a load calculation before recommending anything.
Backup from the driveway
For homes along the forest edge, a bidirectional system — from about $19,000 — lets a compatible EV power the house during an outage. The federal §30C charger credit ended after June 30, 2026; ask your utility about any current EV offers.
