How the Bill Reader works
What do you do with my bill photo?
We send it to our AI provider (Anthropic) for a one-time extraction and don’t store the file. We don’t extract your name, account number or address. Only the usage numbers come back to your browser, and nothing is saved to our system unless you choose to send us your results.
Which bills does it work with?
Any electric bill — Xcel Energy, Colorado Springs Utilities, Fort Collins, Longmont, CORE, United Power, Black Hills and the rest. It works best on the page with the monthly usage chart, photographed flat and well-lit.
Why read the bill instead of just asking my bill amount?
A bill amount hides the things that decide solar economics: how many kWh you use by month, whether you’re on time-of-use, your fixed charges, and any demand charge. Reading them directly makes the estimate far more accurate.
Can the AI get it wrong?
Yes — especially with blurry photos or combined gas-and-electric bills. We show everything it read so you can check it, and every number is editable in the calculator. A person on our team reviews every real proposal.
