For Xcel customers on time-of-use, a battery that shifts midday solar into the evening peak avoids power priced at about 2.7 times off-peak. Xcel’s Renewable Battery Connect program has also offered upfront incentives in exchange for limited event dispatch; amounts have stepped down over time.
United Power and CORE members
United Power and CORE set their own rates, and the value of a battery depends on whether your rate has a time-of-use or demand component and how exports are credited. CORE, for example, credits exports from home systems larger than 10 kW AC at its avoided cost of about 4.6 cents per kWh — a clear reason to store solar rather than export it.
We pull your current tariff before recommending storage, and if the numbers don’t work, we’ll tell you a battery is a backup purchase, not an investment.
Incentives as of September 2026
Colorado’s 10% battery income-tax credit applies through tax year 2026, and batteries are exempt from state sales tax. Leased batteries may still carry federal value for the owner under §48E, which can lower a lease payment. Verify current terms.
