Watch the charger’s amperage
United Power’s demand charge ($4.55/kW in 2026) uses your highest 15 minutes any time of day. A 48-amp charger draws about 11.5 kW; if that overlaps with the dryer and oven, the month’s peak jumps. Setting the charger to 24 or 32 amps overnight still fills most commutes and keeps the peak lower.
On the Time of Use rate, charging off-peak costs $0.0672/kWh versus $0.1880 from 5–9 p.m. Monday–Saturday, so schedule the car for overnight.
Rebates, and which path fits you
The standard wiring rebate covers the invoice up to $250 (under $1,200) or $500 ($1,200 or more), and the panel-upgrade rebate is $500; United EV members get $500 or $1,000 for wiring instead. United EV supplies its own ChargePoint unit on a monthly fee, so it’s a different path from buying a Tesla Wall Connector or Enphase IQ EV Charger from us.
Our typical Level 2 install is about $2,500–$3,000 before those rebates. The federal §30C charger credit ended June 30, 2026.

Net metering, in plain English
Excess kWh roll into a net-meter bank month to month and are drawn down before energy charges apply. Each March the bank is settled to zero and the balance paid at the current wholesale energy rate (April–March year). Systems up to 25 kW inverter-based may not exceed 200% of the location’s annual usage. The fixed charge is always billed.
Time-of-use: As of Jan. 1, 2026: standard residential (R1) is $22.00/month, $0.1184/kWh and $4.55/kW demand on the highest 15-minute interval any time of day. The optional Time of Use rate (RTD1) charges $0.1880/kWh on-peak (5–9 p.m. Monday–Saturday) and $0.0672/kWh off-peak, with the same $4.55/kW demand charge. The on-peak window shrank from 2–10 p.m. to 5–9 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2026.

Questions we hear
How much is United Power’s EV charger rebate?
For wiring: up to $250 on invoices under $1,200 or up to $500 on invoices of $1,200+, and $500/$1,000 if you enroll in United EV. A separate $500 rebate helps with a panel upgrade. Applications run through June 30, 2027 or until funds run out.
Can I combine United Power’s EV rebates?
United Power says the programs can’t be combined at the same service location, so pick the path that pays more for your install.
Will a Level 2 charger raise my United Power demand charge?
It can. The demand charge is set by your highest 15-minute interval any time of day, so charging at full power alongside other big appliances raises it. Lower amperage overnight avoids most of that.
How soon do I need to file for the rebate?
United EV participants must apply within 90 days of installation, with an itemized invoice and photos. Rebates of $600 or more require a W-9.
