Xcel commercial bills: energy vs. demand
Most commercial Xcel rates charge separately for energy and for peak demand. Solar cuts energy costs predictably; cutting demand charges usually takes a battery programmed to shave peaks. For restaurants, breweries and small manufacturers with sharp afternoon peaks, the storage piece often matters more than the panel count.
Tax treatment for 2026–2027 projects
Businesses can still claim the federal §48E credit for solar placed in service by December 31, 2027 (or later if construction began by July 4, 2026), and storage keeps eligibility much longer. 100% bonus depreciation has been restored for qualifying property. Confirm with your CPA — these rules have shifted repeatedly and court rulings are still pending.
